Rude Awakening...

There are some big changes about to happen in our little family...and I think that the person who is going to be hardest hit by these changes is...well...not really a person at all: he is a dog.

Two and a half years ago I fell HEAD OVER HEELS in love with this little white fluff ball. I then proceeded to purchase him and bring him into our lives completely against my husband's wishes. Seriously. Do not judge me. You would have done the same. Just LOOK at him.Since I brought him home, Bear has become so much more than a pet to us...he is a very important part of our family. People keep telling me that he is about to "become a dog", and maybe that is true, but I cannot imagine that just because I love Evie more than I can comprehend that it will make me love this guy any less. In my perfect world, baby girl and Bearsie are going to be the best of pals for the next...oh...50 years.

Yes, my dog has the longest life expectancy IN THE WORLD. What about it?

Even though I do not plan on loving him any less, this spoiled canine is in for a RUDE awakening (especially since he thinks we made the nursery just for him). He is completely, blissfully unaware that changes are in his future. He thinks that I have just been eating too many Double Stuf Oreos...(I have).

Here is a short lovers-montage for your enjoyment. I wish that I could set it to some Rod Stewart music...but I do not know how, so use your imaginations.

Hippity Hoppity...

Evie's first Easter has been quite eventful. After a day FULL of shopping she now has curtains, a diaper pail, and about 17 different types of pacifiers to choose from (I did not even know that many kinds even existed...but they do. I also did not know that babies were picky about which ones they would suck...but they are).

Her Lolly and Pop-pop left this morning bright and early after two solid weeks of work. The basement is so close to being done and we are extremely thankful for all of the hours that David and Debbie spent down there sheet-rocking, mudding, painting, trimming, and ceiling...ing.

And, to top it all off...she is 33 weeks old now!!
Here is what little Evelyn Grey looks like now-a-days:Bear looks at me, increasingly more often, with his big brown eyes and I swear that I can almost hear him say "My life is about to be verrrrrry different...and I am noooooot pleased."

I hope that everyone has a blessed Sunday and that Mr. Bunny is very good to you all!! Happy Easter. It is so amazing to celebrate the day that death was overcome.
The bunny cake pictured above was made by Debbie Scobey. She takes orders. Not really.
We ate the bow-tie for breakfast this morning and are going to share the rest of it with our friends Carl and Brittney after an Easter dinner tonight.

Once Upon a Sunday

I (the great Bear Scobey) decided to go on a little adventure today. It was windy and cold...but I am very, very brave.

Along the way I saw many strange and wondrous things. There was a small Gnome sitting beside a lake...but I dared not disturb him...as you all know how irritable small men can be.
Then I had to pass over treacherous waters by way of a small and rickety wooden bridge. It was scary...but I am very, very brave.
Then a marvelous thing happened. While I was making my way through the woods I found a Prince. I thought about taking him home with me, as he would surely not be difficult to housebreak, but I decided it best to let him stay where he was...just in case there were any Dragons that needed to be slain.
After such a long day...filled with so many wonderful adventures...I found myself quite excited and in need of a rest-room. This pile of sticks would just have to do. Afterward I felt much better, and decided to head home to my mommy and daddy (who would no doubt be overjoyed to see me). And They All Lived Happily Ever After.
The End.

Nap Time

I have always enjoyed naps (just ask any of my college roommates). Being 7 months pregnant, however, has taken naps from being an enjoyable indulgence to an absolute necessity for my sanity and the health of those around me (read: my husband).

My institution-worthy-crazy-pregnant-lady mood swings only seem to occur when this one condition is met: I am tired. Being expectant-mom-tired is not a normal kind of exhaustion. In fact, this symptom is probably my biggest complaint of pregnancy thus-far (cankles are really edging this one out of first place at the moment, though). It is a bone-achingly, body-ceasing-to-function kind of tired that I cannot really describe. This is why "rest" becomes so important when one is making a baby. So I nap. I nap for humanity, really. I do it so that all of you can have a more peaceful existence (read, again: my husband).

Luckily, I have the most phenomenal and loyal nap buddy. He completely understands the importance of mid-day sleeping.

Also, happy March everyone. I thought that it was getting warmer here...which meant that, surely, Spring was not far away. Nope. We are currently getting pummeled with snow. Today the weatherperson is calling for 4-8 inches, with another 8-12 to fall tomorrow. It is laughable, really. Except I AM NOT LAUGHING. Neither is my nap buddy, because all of his easy-to-pee-on green grass is covered up...again. Poor guy.

Mental Health Day

I guess yesterday was pretty taxing for me, because it ended with me coming home at 6:30 and Graham hugging me while I cried, sobbing "I do not know why I am crying....I'm sorrryyyyyy." Needless to say, I did not get my nap yesterday...which is never a good thing.

So, today I am taking a mental health day. I slept in until 11:30 (DON'T JUDGE ME), ate a PBJ for lunch while watching people get their bathrooms madeover on television, and now I am hanging out with my puppy listening to country music. He is clearly thrilled about it.I cannot remember the last time I stayed home from school just because I wanted to. It isn't the most responsible thing to do, granted, but don't we all need days like this? If anyone asks I will say I am sick. With Eye-bulge-itis. It is highly contagious.

Now I will leave you with some of the old-school tunes that have me bouncing (oh! so happily) today

What does your perfect mental health day look like?

Winter Olympics 2009

There are about 6 inches of snow on the ground this week...and that is a welcome change to what we came home to: ice. You could slip and slide all over our yard. Here is a clip of our resident ice skater doing some of his world class tricks. If I were judging this, he would get a 10!

On a more serious note, yesterday was one of the best days of my life. We had an ultrasound (which we were not even expecting) and found out that on June 2nd we are due to have a little baby GIRL! I had been wanting a boy and I was sure that it was one...but when I heard the nurse say that it was a girl I was just so excited, I have barely been able to wipe the smile off of my face. Her name is Evelyn Grey...but we will call her Evie. Here is a picture from Evie's most recent photo shoot. It is her facial profile...we already think she is pretty much the most gorgeous thing in the world.

A GIANT Christmas post

Christmas 2008

We have had such a great week. Last Saturday was our annual neighborhood Christmas party. We have been so blessed by all of the wonderful people we have met here...we could not have moved into a neighborhood filled with more fun people!
That's my husband...he cuts rugs...Graham's parents came up on Sunday and we have just been spending time with them.
On Wednesday we went into the city (which takes about 2 hours by train) and saw Jersey Boys. It was a really great play!
It was not terribly cold, either...which was nice.
I couldn't believe how easy it was for us to go and spend a day in New York. Now that we know, we will be going there much more often!!
Today the snow came. Debbie and I headed out to run errands this morning...and we were on a strict deadline due to the impending storm. Well, 11:00 came and then 12:00 came and we were getting very skeptical that this "storm" was going to happen at all. We all sat down to lunch around 1 and watched out our breakfast room window as flurries turned into bigger snowflakes and buckets just began to fall from the sky. Bear got to have his first snow experience...he almost blends right in!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope it is blessed and joyful!

The Week in Review

A lot has been going on in the Scobey house this week. A LOT. As soon as we got back in town from Thanksgiving break Graham and I decorated our house. (I have been wanting to do this since mid-November which, needless to say, I was forbidden from doing...so I did not let the freezing rain stop me from decorating as soon as we woke up last Saturday morning)

While watching Top Chef on Wednesday I got a craving for something sweet. "Cheescake", I thought. Well, Graham then got a counter-sympathy-craving for fudge...so we made fudge. It was sticky-sweet fun. My husband makes a mean fudge!!This is just a fun picture of my dog pulling on my jeans...he does not like it when I set the table for dinner because he knows that it means he will have to watch us eating for 30 min or so...pure torture for Bear.
Due to the extremely hectic schedule we have over the next two weeks, us Scobeys did our family Christmas on Saturday this year. Pretty early, we know...but oh well. Here is Bear opening his present. It is a mint flavored orby bone. He keeps trying to eat it because it smells so good, but he hasn't quite grasped that it is a toy yet.We then got our first snow cover of the season this morning (Sunday). The house looks even better with white on the roof!
Well, there is our week in review. It has been busy but wonderful. Classes are done for me...so I just have papers to turn in and exams to give/grade next week :) I hope everyone is having a wonderful December thus-far.

Crazy, Wonderful Life

I apologize for the lack in posting lately...things have gotten really busy around here really quickly and time has just gotten away from me.

It is winter here...well, in my opinion at least. This week the temperature has ranged from the low 30's to the mid 50's, and Graham, Bear, and Myself are all having to bundle up to go on our walks now.
We have (finally) hung some artwork in our dining room...my little sister (who is, obviously, an incredibly talented artist) painted these trees for our new home right before we moved (there is another one on the other side of the window). I love them.My other sister, Lauren, wrote a beautiful post this past week about the difference between wishing for things and having hope in God. It made me realize that, in my moments of weakness and sadness, I am too prone to wishing...that thing were better, different, easier...when what I really need to be doing is praying a prayer of thanks that I am, in reality, exactly where God wants me to be. He does, after all, know so much more about what I need that I do. Thank you, La, for challenging my perspective.

Santa Barbara Weekend

We played tourists again this weekend, visiting the beautiful city of Santa Barbara which, though we live only an hour south of it, we had never been to. Here are some pictures of Bear at Arroyo Burro Beach, a dog-friendly, off leash area. I don't think that he has ever had so much fun.
