Mission: Nesting

I have been putting off my urges to work on Evelyn's room with the knowledge that I just had a few weeks left of class and teaching to get through before I could focus completely on getting ready for her. This has resulted in a very, very clean home (whenever I wanted to work on her room I ended up scrubbing floors instead). Well, this weekend the urges got the best of me. Phase one of nesting is complete! Her clothes are washed, her closet is organized, the walls are painted and her rug is down (thank you Lolly!).All of her newborn and 0-3 months outfits are hanging...the rest are organized in bins

I know this shouldn't come as a surprise to me...but this little girls is going to have way too many clothes!

We set up her bouncer and let Bear give it a test-drive...he was not thrilled

Here is her new rug...which will get turned the other direction once her furniture gets here (which should be THURSDAY!)

And a quick shot of her pink walls...we are so happy with how the color came out

It felt so so good to work on her nursery...I was in a wonderful mood all weekend. It probably did not hurt that it has been gorgeous here. Saturday and Sunday saw temperatures in the mid 80's...so we spent a lot of time on the yard. Sunday was my church shower. It was so humbling receiving gifts for our little girl from people whom we had not even met. We have been so so blessed here!

This was the delicious and gorgeous cupcake-cake

And little "E" sugar cookies

I will put more pictures up once we get her furniture set up and in the room...I would be willing to bet that the nursery will be baby-ready by the beginning of next week. Yay!

Monsoon

Today a Jumanji-style monsoon came to Coventry. I seriously do not know that I have ever seen it rain so hard in my entire life...it was ridiculous. It also made the long walk from the Communication building back to my car utterly treacherous.

The good part? I find it bizarrely comforting when the weather matches my mood...it is as if someone up there is saying "yeah, that really does suck" or "here, have some sunshine to go with that pep in your step". That monsoon was a complete mirror of how it feels to be inside my head right now: totally overwhelmed and not quite knowing which was is up.

The bad part? The walk back to my car today consisted of my brain telling my swollen-sausage-feet "one in front of the other fellas, one in front of the other" while my uterus screamed at my brain to "PLEASE DEAR GOD STOP!"

So I Married a 5th Grader

Happy MLK Day everyone. As I write this, my husband is shoveling our mailbox out of the snow so that the mailman can make his deliveries tomorrow. Well, I say that. He may be playing, because this is what he was doing 15 minutes ago when I went out there:

He was buried thigh-high in snow exclaiming that we now have enough snow to make tunnels out of….No. Thank. You. Snow is fun to look at but also very cold, and digging through it does not sound the least bit appealing to me, but I sure am glad that our daughter will have someone to play in it with ☺

I am sure all of my readers are getting sick of the snow related posts…but it snows SO much here (I know, I know…we live in Connecticut).

On another note, our precious niece Belle had her first birthday on Thursday (we are kindred spirits, and we share a birthday). The party, however, was yesterday. The pictures are absolutely adorable and the cupcakes looked delicious. I am sure you will be able to find pictures soon on Rachel's blog. Happy Belated Birthday, sweet Belle!!

Snowy Sunday

Well, we were determined to get up and go to church this morning...but when my alarm went off and I looked out the window this is what I saw.
What was forecasted to be around 2 inches has turned into about 6...and it is only 8:30 am! You cannot see it as well in the picture, but the flakes are HUGE. This is the fourth big snow that we have gotten this winter. It is so beautiful, but we are starting to run out of things to do while at home. Today we will probably get to working on finishing the basement. The sooner that is done the sooner we can get started on Evie's room...which I am sooo excited about.

Her name means "beautiful bird", so without going too theme crazy (because I am not one for themes) we are going to give her room an aviary feel. We love this room from Pottery Barn Kids, and have decided on that beautiful sleigh crib in white...but I think the walls will have to be green or yellow (above the white beadboarding or wainscotting)...this picture has a little too much pink for me.In other Scobey news, Thursday was my birthday! Graham took me to a really wonderful resturant in Hartford called Max Downtown...we had the most delicious dinner. Here is me, at 21 weeks, before heading out for a night on the town.Me getting my birthday kisses!!

Winter Olympics 2009

There are about 6 inches of snow on the ground this week...and that is a welcome change to what we came home to: ice. You could slip and slide all over our yard. Here is a clip of our resident ice skater doing some of his world class tricks. If I were judging this, he would get a 10!

On a more serious note, yesterday was one of the best days of my life. We had an ultrasound (which we were not even expecting) and found out that on June 2nd we are due to have a little baby GIRL! I had been wanting a boy and I was sure that it was one...but when I heard the nurse say that it was a girl I was just so excited, I have barely been able to wipe the smile off of my face. Her name is Evelyn Grey...but we will call her Evie. Here is a picture from Evie's most recent photo shoot. It is her facial profile...we already think she is pretty much the most gorgeous thing in the world.

Stormy Saturday

Well it has been a good end to a crazy week. We had friends over for a Halloween party on Friday and had a blast. Then we cleaned, relaxed, and ran errands on Saturday. It had been threatening to storm all day long when, at around 3:30 (right when we got home, thankfully), it started to pour. Not only was it raining, but the wind was reaching 40 mph gusts...needless to say our potted plants were all toppled this morning. Then, at 4:00pm, our power went out and didn't come back on until around 7. This is one time that my love for candles has come in handy.

Today we are taking it slow yet again.
Weekends are the most wonderful time to recuperate.

Two weekends ago I went to Atlanta for my Papa's 65th birthday party. It was so wonderful to see all my family. Here are some overdue pictures from the fun-filled weekend.Just a quick update. More to come later.

It's the End of the World as We Know it

If anyone has seen the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" you might remember the scene in which two tornadoes rip through the Capital Records building and the Hollywood sign in downtown LA. Well...they chose tornadoes because they don't have them in California. Not until yesterday, that is.
Yesterday two tornadoes touched down in Riverside. These twisters were accompanied by fires, thunderstorms, hail, and snow. No, that was not a typo...it snowed in Southern California yesterday...10 minutes outside of LA. Can we say "doomsday"?
People, guard your historic landmarks, according to the movies natural disasters always take them out first. If anyone is looking for me this weekend, I will be hiding in my bathtub...with a mattress over my head.
